Stillborn - Faible Et Damné
Mouth Of Madness is proud to present the cassette reissue of “Faible Et Damné”, the sole recording from Sherbrooke, QC’s STILLBORN.
Formed in Sherbrooke, Quebec in the late 90s by a few young diehards that had been refining their skills in previous bands, STILLBORN (with some members currently in DISEMBODIMENT) soon proved to be an even more intense, manic and somewhat technical death metal offering from these young musicians. Although early Slayer and mid-period Death are used as the foundations for their music the band did not set out to have an influence-specific sound. With grinding drums, razor sharp riffs and an uncompromising dual-vocal attack (with lyrics mostly in French) the band’s take on the genre is a raw and vicious one, undoubtedly enhanced by the recording itself. However the aggressiveness on display is also counterbalanced by dynamic songwriting with a sense of melody and gloom, not unlike Necrotism-era Carcass.
The album was recorded directly to tape by the band in their jamspace. Although production values recall the best obscure demos from a decade prior, the blasting drums that are pushed to the very front of the mix are almost characteristic of modern day war metal. The recording was recently entrusted to Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios to receive a proper mastering. This treatment keeps all the ear-damaging, tape-hissing charm of the original release intact while further enhancing it to make this the ultimate version of this Québécois death metal gem.
Newly remastered version on white tapes. Limited to 150 copies.
